[]The U.S. Education Department has issued a report with reams of statistics on how the nation’s 3,700 academic libraries were used in 2004. The report, “Academic Libraries: 2004,” lists the libraries’ holdings, expenditures, and searches and other services to its users, among other things. The report, which was issued by the department’s National Center for Education Statistics, is based on the 2004 Academic Libraries Survey. The Association of Research Libraries conducts an annual survey, published earlier this year, that presents a more-focused look at university libraries in 2004-5.
